Dressing for your body shape

Understanding your body shape will help you choose the clothes that will look good and flatter.

Body shape is a better guide to what will suit you than age, so choose your wardrobe based on this and forget old fashioned ‘rules’. For example, a well-cut casual top with a hood can look great on those with a heavier bust. Hoods are not just the domain of the young as they soften the neckline and outline.

If you have good shoulders don’t be afraid to show them.

Long line tops don’t have to be restricted to those who are tall. Long lines can flatter many shapes. The key is to get the proportions right.
Breaking up a long top with a belt worn over the top, or by wearing the garment open with a camisole and a belt underneath will remind everyone where your waist is.

Use spaghetti strap tops as underpinnings, a visual undergarment if you’re not brave enough to bare all.

Dressing for your body shape is all about balance. If you have a smaller top half and bigger hips then balance your shape with puff sleeves, bows and ruffles, a strong necklace etc. A large bust will look smaller with v-necklines and can be balanced on smaller hips by adding an eye-catching belt.

Bold Colours

If you’re unsure about a too much bright colour but would like to give it a go, opt for a highlight piece.

One piece of colour against a neutral background can add impact and interest, and is a great way to wear strong colour this season.

Generally, the darker the complexion the bolder you can go.

Marled fabric softens the impact of colour by adding in a neutral tone to the weave.

New Neutrals

Neutrals don’t have to be bland. Mixing tones of neutrals can add depth and texture to an outfit.

Layer neutral tones, graduating the colours from light to dark.

You can also add a flash of colour with a piece of jewellery, bag or shoes. Crystals give neutrals an earthy feel.
